Phones use a Lithium-Ion battery for power, which is a type of battery that can be recharged so it can be used over and over again. The battery will degrade over time though, which is why you’ll notice that older phones have to be recharged much more often than newer phones.

Back in the really old days of mobile gaming (things like the Gameboy) we used Alkaline batteries which couldn’t be recharged. When your Gameboy ran out of power you had to throw your batteries away and get new ones. It could get really expensive if you were a hardcore gamer.
