So I’m aware that Stephen Hawking said something about how the density of space around black holes could allow you to reach speeds which would exceed the speed of light, or something like that? I haven’t read the book so I don’t know exactly what he is positing which makes it very difficult to comment.

In general, my attitude is, Stephen Hawking was an extremely competent, intelligent physicist and if he believed there was a model that could hypothetically make time travel possible then that is worth investigating. I would be very curious to know what the details of Stephen’s hypothesis were and whether or not it is an avenue of research that is being actively pursued.

There has been quite some research (some very solid, some not so much) about time travel.
I cannot find the paper, but last year I came across a paper about a mathematical proof of time traveling.
Also, if I think about it, even Einstein-Rossen’s theory on worm wholes supports the hypothesis of time travel.
Similar to Gary, I haven’t read Stephen Hawking’s work on time travel and don’t know exactly what are his findings and hypothesis, but if Stephen Hawking said it is true, then I believe it is true đŸ™‚
